Missy Woodward of Critter Crusades interviews Lorri Bauston, Founder of Animal Acres. Animal Acres is a farmed animal sanctuary and compassionate living center located just 45 minutes from Los Angeles.

Animal Acres works to promote compassionate living through its farmed animal rescue and refuge efforts, public education and outreach, and advocacy projects to prevent cruelty to farmed animals. Since we opened our doors in 2005, thousands of people have visited the sanctuary and learned that farmed animals need protection, and love, too.

Animal Acres was founded by Lorri Bauston, who is considered the pioneer of the farmed animal sanctuary movement. In 1986, Lorri co-founded Farm Sanctuary, which opened the countrys first sanctuary for farmed animals. For 18 years, she directed the group's rescue and fundraising efforts.

Through her farm animal sanctuary efforts, Lorri has directly saved thousands of animals from the cruelties of factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses, and brought national attention to the plight of animals used for food production. Lorris work has been featured in hundreds of newspaper, television and radio news stories, including guest appearances on CBS This Morning, Animal Planet, and PrimeTime Live.

The sanctuary is a refuge for animals, and a sanctuary for the soul. Farmed animal sanctuaries are a place where cows, pigs, and chickens reach out and touch the human heart. The animal ambassadors gently teach people to extend compassion to ALL beings through one-on-one interaction. For many people, it is the first time they have ever looked into the eyes of pig or chicken, and it can profoundly affect the way people view and treat farmed animals.

  • Stuppid veggie pushers.

No one has to be vegan or veggie if they don't want.

  • Got to say it is confusing that you have multiple videos about "A Crusade Against Cruelty" to animals yet you are all in favor of eating them. A bit contrary don't you think?

  • GREAT INTERVIEW!!!

I am a Vegetarian and I am really excited about this place. Great video!

  • Kudos to Missy for a great interview! Lorri is one of the very few pioneers in the quest to save farm animals and to educate the public about the horrors of the industry.

  • @EllesVideoVault Nobody has to turn vegan or vegetarian, but why so defensive? Yikes (LOL)

  • This lady is so full of crap they take most of the donations and stick them in their own pockets. its horrible. i have seen it first hand. Its all about Capitalist greed. They are exploiting these animals for their own Benefit. Their representatives have very little knowledge one of them told me to feed only rolled oats to my sheep after consulting a vet i learned that this would cause then to bloat and explode.

  • Great video! I've been a vegetarian since I was 14 (10 years ago) :o) I live in Los Angeles and would love to volunteer at this sanctuary. I love knowing that there are such great people out there in the world caring for those who have no voice. Great work Lorri!

  • Sorry, I have nothing against animals being treated nicely, but I also realize they are food to me and many many millions of people.. Beaelliott is incorrect on her grain statement as well..

  • And absolutely no one has to eat animals either! It certainly isn't the "choice health food"... animal agriculture is horrible for the environment - It contributes to world starvation (by feeding so many animals grain, whereas we could feed the grain directly to people)... And eating meat is horribly cruel to animals. Being vegan is a great alternative to all the ills associated with flesh eating -

    Go Vegan :)

  • Is there a source for that information? doubt it.

  • I'm a vegetarian, thank you very much.

Other than the fact they're slightly pushing it, the video's fine. I just think people should be able to choose for themselves.
