Archival newscast leads into a short segment by Bill Holly, kids' show host for KHJ-9 in Los Angeles in the late 60's.
Amazingly, Bill "Holly" Hollingsworth was able to leave the studio with one of his original rolls of video - most of these were routinely wiped clean and reused. Thanks to Bill for sending me a copy! (That's me front and center at the protest.)

  • Am I the only one who remembers when Holly donned superhero drag and ran "Hercules" carttons for his short-lived show as Zolar?

  • Not at all! I remember that show very well, and Bill still has color picture cards in his Zolar from Thunderbolt Mountain getup.

Watch my channel for more Holly archival clips coming soon.

  • thank you dino for posting the above clip...What a surprise after all these years. It brought back many wonderful memories of you and the melrose street gang!

  • Bill - glad you saw the clip, finally! I lost your address or I would have let you know! I hope to upload a couple more soon.

  • 143AC: I definitely remember Popeye Theater with Sally Star. She not only had Popeye on, but The Three Stooges, The Funny Company, Corageous Cat and Minute Mouse, Clutch Cargo, and Batfink as well. She used to come on at 4 o'clock (where Oprah is today) One time, I entered a King Midas Spaghetti Ring contest, but I never one.

It's a shame that there are no locally-produced kids shows on TV anymore; especially in the morning. Nothing against thenews, but there's just too much junk.

  • Dear Nan Lisa, The title of Ms.Starr's WFIL(WPVI)TV Ch.6

Philly,Pa. based kids tv show was"The Popeye Theater". She also hosted reruns of"The Three Stooges"Film

comedies and "Road Runner" movie cartoons..too.

  • Thunderbolt Mountain! How did I ever forget that one? Yeah, KHJ was trying different things during that period. But then, it WAS the era of "Shrimpenstein," wasn't it? Anything was possible...

  • Bill, you are a class act...finally have a new computer so I can get on youtube! Love seeing your show...you are the best! Your friend at Honda, Paul

  • Interesting. My name is William Hollingsworth and growing up my family called me Popeye.

  • There was a Popeye show here in Philadelphia during that time as well, hosted by Sally Star. I used to watch it everytime I came home from school. As a matter of fact, when I was in the fourth grade, I was actually talking Popeye talk.
