My Vita-Mix began to have an odd smell in November 2011. This was after a year-and-a-half of use and about 700 uses. The smell prompted me to look underneath and I noticed a small amount of oil on the bottom.
A month later I noticed the smell being a bit stronger and saw the oil spot on the bottom had increased slightly.
On December 28th the green smoothie I was making leaked out the bottom. I called for service, and in 48 hours I had a new blade assembly delivered to me for free.

A few days later I made this video of me putting it together.
I had never done this before.
If I had to replace this again, and there was no clean-up necessary due to the excess oil from the damaged assembly, I think I could do this in 5 minutes. It's a very simple process, and the only concern (other than handling the sharp blades) would be tightening the assembly too tight...and possibly cracking the plastic container in the process.

This was an unfortunate problem, but this is a great product and I really appreciated the great service from Vita-Mix.
