Shining Butterfly Review

My review of the DMM Single Shining Butterfly.

The girls were all gorgeous and sounded great! I was incredibly impressed with how this single turned out, and I think that if this is going to be the one and old single that DMM releases, I'm happy with it, and I think it suits them all perfectly.

Cont... I appreciate they attempted a storyline with PV but what is the point of reuniting all of these old members if it's just going to be a video about Rika? I get that she's a popular member but it's just odd that this special unit has now become about one member. She can still lead the song without being in 85% of the video she did that with The Peace! :)

@miap I absolutely agree with everything you said. I thought from the beginning that this whole unit was just going to be a cash cow for UFA to bring some more attention to Morning Musume by reliving some of the old songs and making people get back into the spirit. The biggest fan group of the current MM are younger crowds, and the older crowds who were the first listeners have trickled off in many senses. They needed a way to pull money into a fading group.

@miap I completely understand where they came from in utilizing Charmy's personality, looks, and ...... well her vocals don't really count in this situation XD Because she has always been a popular member with all age groups and genders, however this was another power play for money. They did the same thing they've always done, and I agree with that, however I'm content with this song as opposed to something else they more than likely would have put out.

@miap As you pointed out, they created an entire album of cover songs, what would have stopped them from just doing another "revamped" cover of a song and changing the instrumentals slightly for an officiall DMM single? Nothing really. So the fact that they came out with an original idea is more acceptable, and makes me much happier than if they had been even more lazy and tried to revamp Love Machine, or the Peace, or even a Platinum Generation single like Naichau Kamo.

@sterupinstuchvideos Yeah even though this whole thing is kind of a gimmick, I was still really happy to see most of my favorite members united again, it's just the fact they are singing Love Machine and RR21 a milllion times, like that's all they have left and have to lean on that to be successful. They are so capable of moving past that and singing new songs and still being popular with the right management. Sorry for rambling on and on haha I enjoy your reviews btw!

@sterupinstuchvideos Yeah it's definitely still better then doing a cover of one of their older songs for sure (although I wouldn't be surprised if the agency did that) It's not really a terrible song, it just sounds like an album filler or something Abe Natsumi would sing during her solo career. You'd think they would give them a really great song so they can go out with a bang. Ya know? They deserve to be on top again!

Cont..It just seems that there was zero thought and effort put into this unit and they are just riding on the name and the original members. The girls have so much talent and potential and this opportunity was completely wasted on ufa's laziness and lack of inspiration.

...I was really happy when they announced Dream Morning Musume, but if find UFA has just used this reunion to as a quick way to make some more cash. I mean they released an album that was basically all cover songs, and now this really bland forgettable single...continue

Nice review, although I don't totally agree with everything you said. I feel like they could of come up with a more memorable song and video if this indeed their first and only single. I'm not surprised though because UFA and Hello!Project have been cranking out a lot mediocre low budget releases for several years now...continue

A 5 minute song and they've managed to sing the chorus 5 times, lost the subtle funk/jazz sound which made songs like "Morning Coffee", "Love Machine", "Love Revolution 21", "The Peace!", "Happy Summer Wedding" (to name a few) sound generally awesome and really popular back then, replaced by a protuberant guitar track totally unfit MM songs. The guitar solo came in like the stamp of generic songs.
