Polished and restrained, but it swings hard. Nice melodic lines, and I really like the open voicings in the left hand. Playing the LH so much softer than the RH gives a really niced layered effect. *****

Good ear. Not a lot of people realize how powerful dynamic control is, especially in the pianisimo register, where the piano sings. I promise to get another less restrained blues by Chris on here. Also, he's got some chops that are hiding on this version.

Lots and lots of listening, after a while you'll start hearing those lines that you've heard in recordings in your head over chord changes without even realising it.

Pick a couple of phrases you really like and find them on the keys. Practice practice.

yeah sure i mean first buy a book called 'The Real Book' you can get them on amazon, its just a book full of lead sheets for jazz tunes, and start learning the tunes heads and changes, thats a start. Then you can also get transcriptions or transcribe yourself, i mean a good place to start is to buy the Charlie Parker omnibook, its just full of transcriptions of his solo's if you learn some and see what hes doing over the changes, but i would say transcribe some stuff yourself!

learn lots of melodies and heads to jazz standards to get a good sense of melodic feel and phrasing and harmony and then transcribe or learn other peoples stuff and then take the bits you like and try them in many different ways, say if you have one short 2 bar idea, play it like with different intervals or in a different key or play it backwards and so on - Melodic Development! get the most out of one idea!
