No he didn't write it but he did break down and after one of the takes. He had a lot going on in his life and really related to it.

That is true, the ending when he sounds like he is being swept away by the intense emotion is because he was. They kept the original recording of this song because of the pure emotion. Michael was hesitant to put it on the album because he was unsure of how the fans would receive it and it felt very personal to him. Much to his surprise we loved it and still do. :-)
