I have yet to click on a commenter/critics name and see an awsome display that qualifies them to make negative comments. Martial arts is so diverse that it encompasses the full spectrum of human ability. Modern styles for competition are all about the extreme athletic ability of the best at martial arts - do you think 1000 yrs ago they didn't put flips/splits etc in their form to enhance themselves? Or maybe 1000 years ago you lived or died by your skills so they focus on combat. I like this guy

@AJJAP2 okay I am with you on the actual terms wushu vs kung fu or Gongfu. However thats all semantics. the actual art HAS changed. to say it has not means you have not studied gongfu or have not watched a wushu compitition. wushu in china is gymnastics mixed with forms, plain and simple. While I don't see a problem mixing the two it IS new and DID change with Mao. there is a serious difference between classic and modern wushu. are you saying there is not?

To continue, the term "wu shu" is simply the actual term for "martial arts" (loosely) in mandarin, the official and most widely used language of China. Perhaps after the "communist takeover" of China more insistence on using the proper term was emphasized. The apparent schism between so-called "traditional" vs. "modern" wushu is artificial to me. To be quite blunt, most "traditionalists" cling to that because "modern" wushu is too dynamic & difficult for them to perform. Sorry.

I disagree with the notion that after the communist takeover, "kung fu" was changed to "wushu". That is a profound misunderstanding of terms etc. You should know that "kung fu" was never the proper term for chinese martial arts even going way back. That means (loosely) "high skill through time and effort". It applies to any skill honed to extraordinary levels from art to cooking to your skill on your job, etc. It has been used informally to refer to martial arts skill at high level.

this guy is amazing for abig guy
while he is older, it is not speed or strength he is lacking in. His reason for "going slow" as many say, is to show you the way it is done, correctly

after the communist take over of china kung fu was changed to wushu. this can be seen by the modern restructuring of northern shaolin and wushu in the past 50 yrs. thats why the southern kung fu men left mainland china for taiwan, hk, and other countrys. find a "traditional" southern style and all the moves work as taught in the forms. the reason why a styles moves wouldnt apply is because its been watered down from it original ancient style. do ur reasearch shaolin isnt what it use to be.
