Turlough O´Carolan(1670-1736): Mabel & Daniel Kelly

Turlough Carolan(Irish name Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin, 1670 - March 25, 1738): was a blind, itinerant early Irish harper, composer and singer whose great fame is due to his gift for melodic composition. He was the last great Irish harper-composer and is considered by many to be Ireland's national composer. Harpers in the old Irish tradition were still living as late as 1792, as ten, including Arthur O'Neill, Patrick Quin and Denis O'Hampsey, showed up at the Belfast Harp Festival, but there is no proof of any of these being composers. Some of Carolan's own compositions show influence from the style of continental classical music, whereas others such as Carolan's Farewell to Music reflect a much older style of "Gaelic Harping".

Turlough Carolan (en irlandés : Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin, 1670 - el 25 de marzo de 1738): compositor y el cantante cuya gran fama es debido a su contribución a la composición melódica. Él era el último gran compositor-arpista irlandés, y como se considera por muchos, es el compositor nacional de Irlanda. Los arpistas de la vieja tradición irlandesa todavía vivían aún en 1792, como diez, incluyendo a Arthur O'Neill, Patrick Quin y Denis O'Hampsey, vistos en el Festival de Arpa de Belfast, pero no hay ninguna prueba de que cualquiera de estos fueran compositores. El flautista es Chris Norman tocando flautas de madera de ocho llaves (Románticas o Irlandesas como tambien se llaman) Estos temas de O´Carolan aparecen en el disco "Reel o´Tulloch" sobre música barroca de Escocia e Irlanda. Merece la pena comprar el disco de Chatam Baroque, os lo aseguro.
