We saw this mother/calf pair today (April 25, 2010) from Wedding Rock at Patrick's Point State Park in Humboldt County, California. We saw them coming from the south and they stopped below Wedding Rock for about an hour. The calf looked like it was playing -- doing barrel rolls and peaking -- and we thought they also might be feeding. We could see several other gray whales spouts to the south off Palmers Point that seemed to be hanging around or feeding. They were still there when we left...

  • Awesome dude! No orcas, though-probably would have ripped the little one's tongue out if they found them

  • @humboldtdf Don't tell anyone, but I was secretly hoping some orcas would show. There were some in the area according to the NOAA tagging map.

  • i guess some people saw these guys around Camel Rock in the afternoon too...I didn't see them myself though I was too busy surfing...

  • @metaZen I almost stopped at Camel Rock on the way home for a look. That swell looked decent. Hope the sand bar was in good shape...
