These 3 videos take you through the heel turn and base of heel in NEW PATHWAYS FOR SOCK KNITTERS, BOOK ONE, stating on page 13 and ending on page 16. The demo is primarily on 2 circular needles, with sections shown on DPN's as needed.

  • Hi Cat! I am on this first learning sock and am a bit confused. Some how I have been doing everything right, but the sock is inside out lol. So all I did is turn it right side out and continued with the book. It think it looks like it is supposed to.

My second issue is that the book says, for the arch increases there are basically 5 increase rows, starting with 3 stitches between A&B, but that means there would be 13sts not 15... Should I do another row increase or is the book ?

Hello there. I'm on a teaching trip and do not have the book but I've had this question before. Look again at the pattern, and you'll see that you are asked to work a partial round, which will give you the other 2 sts. For some reason, some knitters don't look at this part of the instructions - you are not alone!

  • Hi Cat,

How do you do do LRinc or LLinc on a first row, where there are no previous generations?

    Thanks in advance,

  • You can't use it on a first row - for the very reason you so astutely point to - no previous generation. So you'd have to use another increase.

  • Where can you get your book? I find your video's very helpful.. I am new to sock knitting.,

    Thanks,

    BSmith

  • Thank you...I thought I'd gone mad.

  • The yarn is a bulky single which is no longer being made, and I use it just for teaching, since it is easy to see clearly. The needles are a size suitable for the yarn. For socks you will want a much lighter weight yarn and needles.

  • No, actually she's knitting Continental style. Holding her yarn in her left hand instead of American style, holding yarn in the right hand.

  • Hello cat,

at 05:35, you are purling, correct? I believe you said we are knitting...

I'm not trying to be miss smarty pants, just trying to help.

    Thank you so much!
