Parade Video, PCS107. Group name: The A-Team. Noise dampening properties of different materials. Project Abstract: In our project, we set out to find the differences in noise dampening for different materials. Our group exemplified the effectiveness of different construction materials when it comes to noise dampening and ultimately, achieving a sense of privacy. We thought that this would be a matter that was of great concern to the public, since everyone has to deal with noise and wants a certain amount of privacy in whatever building type they are in. Through doing the experiment and recording our results we were able to determine the coefficient of transmission for the various materials that we tested. We decided to test this by constructing a controlled environment to record the amount of sound that goes through a material. We used a computer program to record these results in the most accurate way we could. We found that some materials were obviously better than others in terms of stopping vibrations from going through the material, although with further testing we would have been able to achieve an even more accurate result.

  • Hi guys,

I liked your demo very much and the video is excellent. My only comment would be to make some of the slides larger - it was hard for me to read the formula on the white page. Thanks a lot! Well done!
