On April 3rd at approximately 13:43, the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire at 1741 Cherokee Road. Upon arrival, fire units found fire on the exterior of the building extending up the structure and into the attic space. A second alarm was immediately requested. Fire units deployed hand lines to the second floor of the structure to make an attack on the fire. The crews encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions in the building with conditions deteriorating rapidly, crews had to withdraw. Fire units then went to defensive operations. Units were hampered with sustained winds of 35 miles per hour that fed the fire and started some natural cover fires. Water supply was established by laying 1200 feet of 5 inch supply line from the scene to our fire boat that was at the boat ramp at Wheelhouse Marina. Fire units used two aerial apparatus and numerous hand lines to contain the fire. The fire was marked under control at 15:44. Fire units remained on the scene for overhaul until 20:27. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Lake Ozark Fire District was assisted by Osage Beach Fire District, Rocky Mount Fire District, Sunrise Beach Fire District, Eldon Fire Department, Brumley Fire District, Tuscumbia Fire District, Moreau Fire District, Lake West Ambulance and Camden County Sheriff's Department. There were 45 firefighters on the scene.
