I remember listening to a willie nelson 8 track tape with this song on it in the seventies. My grandfather started whistling, and when I looked surprised he told me it was a really old song. He was born in 1916 :)

He's been gone now for several years. Seeing this online made me think of him! Maybe this was the version he knew. Thanks for posting.

P.S. I've seen the old girl in the rocking chair at the beginning in an old Laurel & Hardy short, Thicker Than Water, I think it's called.

1 st saw this clip on The Beatles Anthology because George Harrison was a fan of Jimmie Rodgers while he was growing up.
1 st time I've seen this clip in full though - very good. Ya can see where Rock & Roll came from. This is how it started, 20 years later, speeded up abit with a heavier bass behind it and you've got Rock & Roll.
Good video - thanks for up loading

T for Texas im not sure people realize is very important because Jimmie went up to New York insistent on recording again after the Bristol Sessions. He did not choose it for the BS because he considered it too rough with all the shooting in it but when no fame came from the BS he decided to use T4T and stepped up to the mike on Nov 30,1929 totally as an unknown and belted out t4t the country went into mass hysteria because of this song.. he had no slow discovery--this song was it..
