This is the camera that you can refocus (and do other things) after you take the image. Why? Because it doesn't capture images the way a regular camera does. It captures the entire light field. Here Lytro's Director of Photography, Eric Cheng, gives me a chance to be one of the first to try it out. I shot about 300 images on a walk around Half Moon Bay and here's the results.

Great idea and it seems like a good 1st implementation.
And I liked you first "pre" review of the camera. Very informative and
seemed well balanced.
Now if we only could have the re-focus feature on the interviews.
RS, when you have very interesting and knowledgeable interviewee, you should focus more on him/her. Let them do more of the talking.. :-)

The problem with this camera is it forces you to focus on one point in the picture. So if you constantly want something out of focus then great, but if not, get a DSLR.

I thought this was supposed to be an interview, not a commentary from the person off-camera.

I don't think it's wishful thinking, in fact I e-mailed Lytro some moons ago that they should focus(sic) on developing and marketing a field movie camera to Hollywood studios because the ability to pull focus at will and after-the-fact in a complex scene would be _extremely important_ to directors as it would cut the cost of preparing a take. Lytro should also push this camera on police departments as it allows getting an entire scene in focus in lower light than traditional cameras.

i never want to look anywhere else other than the new technology like the light field based photography from Lytro. ever since i used this device, i never used my canon point or shoot or DSLR cameras. i am looking forward for more software upgrades for viewing credibility.

Just think, 10 years from now, they'll have this kind of technology in video-form.
Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

It's so funny how the interviewer steals the show... until it gets annoying...
