Sam Tchakalian taught at the San Francisco Art Institute for 35 years. He was a beloved teacher known for his passion and honesty whose paintings "... were aggressive and gentle simultaneously," said painter Squeak Carnwath. This selection from a video of a critique of student work was recorded on a hidden camera by one of his students in 1997; Sam notices the camera but doesn't stop talking. The sound is pretty low. There is a website dedicated to remembering Sam at www.samtchakalian.com and a Sam Tchakalian group on Facebook.
