Just a short result of my experiments with playing AVI movies on stock Atari Falcon 030 (4Mb of RAM, 16Mhz CPU). Many thanx to BeetleF060 for his article in "LowRes" magazine.

After testing long files, I can tell You Falcon 030 4Mb can play FULL movies but only when the AVI files is splitted into 2 halfs. Still - it works. :)
Btw, it should have been mentioned that most of a job is being made by DSP processor (32Mhz but addressing only up to 96Kb).

It can scale the movies into a fullscreen mode (in VGA) or show them centered in original resolution (on TV/RGB) which gives about 1/4 of the screen - but then pixels are small. :) So it depends on one's personal likes/preferences.

  • Great machine!

I believe DSP needs to be mentioned!

  • @vojinvidanovic79 You're right - fixed. :)

  • how did you do this?

  • @kristjanga22 Well, I followed exactly with an article I mentioned in description of this video (take a look, there's a link). And on the end of the article there is a few words to original F030 owners - very helpful. Of course somebody might not be happy about required resolution but it's still OK with me because it's still cool for 16Mhz machine. :)

Well, in Amiga vs Atari war, I&I was Amigan - better sound, bit better gfx, better conversions and multitasking OS. But I&I remember Atari had pro style of TT machines, MIDI ports, 030 home computer with DSP with Falcon and because of MIDI some of the best composing s/w (like Cakewalk and Cubase). Sad Atari became just game company and died with Jaguar and Falcon. Amiga continues to live with PPC port of the AmigaOS (AmigaOS 4) which is being developed and updated even today

  • Wow!!!

    THis is possible???

  • cool!! atari falcons a pretty expensive
