10:30 AM - 12/13/2009 - (Carbon County - Franklin Township - Parryville, PA) The morning rain turned area roads in Carbon County to ice skating rinks.
Two Penn DOT plow trucks slid in to the guide rail at the turns on route 209 near LaRose's Skating Rink in Franklin Township. The stuck plow trucks closed route 209 in both directions for an hour. Franklin Township Police closed the highway.
Right after that incident a car slid and hit a house at 30 Canal street in Franklin Township. No injuries occurred in the accident and the car had severe front end damage. Franklin Township Police investigated the accident.
Moments later a Penn DOT plow truck hit the rear of a skidding mini-van on route 248 in Parryville. The plow of the truck hit the rear of the mini-van shattering the rear window and causing damage to the vehicle. A passenger in the van suffered a neck injury and was take to the Palmerton hospital by the Lehighton Ambulance. The Parryville fire department responded to the call and the scene was cleared at 11:32 AM.
11:45 AM, Stuck Penn DOT plow truck at 3050 Long Run Road in Franklin Township. Franklin Township Police were responding to a stuck vehicle. The police officer was glad to see the Penn DOT plow truck arrive. Until it slid on the ice covered road and got stuck and closed Long Run Road for 45 minutes. The plow driver used his load of salt to get going and the road reopened. I pity the Franklin Township police officer. All this in two hours and within five miles of my home, slip slide and away! Incident scene's closed at 12:30 PM.

  • closed highways for this? no offence, but this is NOTHING... canada, the highways are only closed if there are 5 foot snow drifts cutting across the highway, and even then, people plow through them! its called "drive according to the road conditions" the only ones that hit the ditch are idiots for not remailing in controll of your vehicle. never out drive the limitations of yourself OR your vehicle.
