The Sands Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City was imploded on October 18, 2007 to make way for Pinnacle Entertainment Atlantic City. R.E. Pierson was general contractor for the implosion, assisted by Controlled Demolition Inc. Paulus, Sokolowski & Sartor was environmental consultant for the project. Fireworks by Grucci.

Implosion Man makes a special appearance as thousands partied on the beach to watch the fireworks and implosion. The music for the video is the iconic "The End", by The Doors, which was featured in Francis Ford Coppola's epic film "Apocalypse Now". Thanks to 6ABC for the additional camera angle.

For another take on Atlantic City, including archival photographs and the 1972 implosion of the adjacent Traymore Hotel, see MageeMedia's Jonathan Edwards: Live in Atlantic City.

  • Great video on something people will remember for a long time.

  • Thanks, guys. Good seeing you at "Show Us Your Shorts" at The Broadway Theater in Pitman, NJ a week ago. Too bad "The End" got gonged at the 2 minute: 30 second mark. The implosion came at 2 minutes 45 seconds...

See you at "Show Us Your Shorts, Redux" in April. Bill at MageeMedia

  • all of the sands casino n hotels r gone

  • I loved the Sands. It was originally named the Brighton Hotel & Casino, borrowing it's name of the structure built there at the turn of the century. I stayed in every new hotel-casino as it open in Atlantic City in those years, but The Sands was my favorite with it's French Restaurant & English Pub. It stood on the sight of the old COLONY MOTEL I had frequented with my parents as a child so I knew the area well. Not a historic loss like the Marlborough-Blenheim or Traymore, but a fond memory.

  • The grand old Claridge Tower next door watched her neighbor grow up big and tall only to watch her die young!

  • That was one of my favorite hotels. R.I.Pieces, Sands.

  • Awesome video. Great job.

  • Amazing!

  • Another star-studded megga wompa from the master of deezaster!!!!
