Fire in the Tent is Third Azusa Lecture

The third annual Azusa Lecture will be Fire in the Tent: The 1908 Cleveland Revival. Dr. David G. Roebuck, author and church historian, will present the lecture. Following the lecture, Dr. T.L. Lowery will receive the Spirit of Azusa Award and will be honored with a reception in honor of his many years as an evangelist. The event will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, in the North Cleveland Church of Gods Bryant Fellowship Hall.

Fire in the Tent will celebrate the centennial anniversary of what Charles W. Conn called The Great Revival. The eight-week meeting began in the local Church of God but soon moved to a large tent. Crowds are said to have reached as many as 5,000; opponents tried to limit the meeting; and many were filled with the Holy Ghost, including future General Overseer F.J. Lee.

Fifty years after the 1908 revival, Evangelist Lowery and his family arrived in Cleveland. From Cleveland, he crisscrossed the nation, packing his 10,000 seat tent with hearts hungry for God. After fifteen years as an evangelist, the North Cleveland congregation called him to pastor what by then was the mother congregation of the Church of God movement.

The annual Azusa Lecture brings attention to the global Pentecostal revival, honors those who are continuing the spirit of revival, and provides a gift to the community.
