Software created by Trixter (Jim Leonard, runs www.oldskool.org ) and I'm using it to play 30 FPS full motion video with 22 KHz audio on my 4.77 MHz 8088 XT clone computer from 1986.

System specs:
CPU: 8088 @ 4.77 MHz (Intel 8088-2)
HDD: 8-bit XT style 25 MB IDE drive on an 8-bit WD IDE controller
Sound: Sound Blaster Pro 2.0
Network: Generic NE1000-compatible ethernet adapter (8-bit ISA)
Video: Cirrus Logic VGA card (this software runs the same on a CGA!!!)
Floppy: Dual 360 KB 5.25" drives

What a beast! ;)

  • Excellent! The sound card you have, I'm a little bit confused, I have a Sound Blaster Pro 2.0 (with panasonic cd-rom interface)and it is a 16 bit ISA card. Does the 8088 only contain 8 bit ISA slots? I do also have a Sound Blaster 2.0 Mono 8 bit ISA. Is that the card you have?

  • yes, i have the exact same card you do (CT1600) and it is tecnically a 16-bit ISA card, but the pins on the 16-bit extension part of it are only used for the CD-ROM interface. you can still use all the audio features of the card on an 8088.

  • I miss the days when computers were fun to mess with

  • HOLY SHIT Why didn't nobody ever utilise text mode "graphics" back then, the games would have been so much less jerky and limited. Everybody back then would rather have speed over resolution.

  • Reminds me of early FMV.

  • @SMGJohn back then we just made due though. Weird ya but remember to us back then that was the coolest thing ever. Most of us (like me) were jumping up and down at this. that was top of the line.

  • @SMGJohn Nobody watched movies on computers then. We had VCRs for that. ;)

  • So that is how they watched movies on computers back then. Gotta say it looks kinda. Weird

  • It's just like watching Hulu. Pauses and all!

  • I am just blown away that an 8088 can even play video like that. I don't know much about the old technology.

  • Well done!
