Nice live re-arrangements, espesh on lead vocals. Amidst the chaos I forgot to plug my audio recorder into the mixer upstairs in the VIP area, so the bass is raw. I think it's former Liquid Sky crewmember slash Harmonie Korine muse slash designer Chloe Sevigny, who does a lovely ballerina's standing split from the balcony

Ray-Ban decided they'd throw a party to celebrate their Clubmaster frame which, despite sounding like a golfing item or a knock-off brand DJ mixer, "Clubmaster" is in fact, the famous frame which I always thought of as either "Gatsbys" or those Malcolm X frames, which I have at times sported, albeit mine were worn clear, cuz my shades of choice remain some variation on the Wayfarer-meets-60s-bureaucrat design remix, best found off-brand and vintage, in places I won't disclose. Note to Ray-Ban: please come out with modified Wayfarers, of a slightly smaller, more kinda late 50s/early 60s profile; my vintage frames are getting harder and harder to replace.

But these would make pretty cool prescription glasses that turn into sunglasses when you step outside, cuz its a weird design -- even tho' it's kinda funky, its also a tame slash unassuming kind of a frame-for-all-seasons, worn by an intense dude like Malcolm X (did he clip-on his shades?) or a young coquettish Bibi Anderssen debuting in Wild Strawberries or your Grandmother, or Dr. Strangelove, or infinite goateed jazz cats.

I missed the first band, caught some of Ipso Facto, video will be up soonbut Black Kids simply killed it.

DJ Paul Sevigny was OK, but by way of my own dumb-ass DJ notes, when you're just playing rockandrolldies, you should get into some funky blending and mixing instead of just polite fades... even just mess with some dubby effects, otherwise it really feels too Lo-Fi, not live enough...so while I did dig hearing a tune as familiar and beloved as Love & Rockets' Kundalini Express, it'd be a hoot -- and proper really, given that it's a packed house to hear it mixed into another song, preferably a trans-genre mix, in the manner that such 80s music was often mixed by DJs when it debuted...just makes a better party and ups the likelihood of a pre-concert dancefloor oasis (espesh with that kind of open bar), when the mix -- not just the song selection -- is part of the night -- and I mean more than just quick cuts all the damn time, which means that nowadays some strictly Hip-Hop DJs (tho a hip-hop DJ by definition can mix anything) could also get a bit livelier by way of mix artistry -- and I say all of this drivel about DJ styles with love, not as a hater.

Looking positively Shuggie, head Black Kid Reggie Youngblood (Youngblood is one down-by-law, super-cool last name) hits an at-times Iseley Brothers silvery style, at other times sparse, early Cure-style guitar, while delivering a kind of gutbucket vocal which makes a simple line that actually contains the words love me baby, already resonate nicely, with either an unrequited lovers' pining or a bored object-of-affections mantra, depending on the listeners luck. Hearing Hit the Heartbrakes live, the guitar and keyb just soar a lil more epically, and the falsetto vocal which Youngblood delivers has proper heart, making for a dynamite alternate version of an already devastating tune. At times the more vulnerable tones in Youngbloods voice are startlingly original, and will be interesting to watch develop over the years. At the 9-minute mark, his face slowly emerges from the intense purple backlight, and it seems like he would make a proper Burger in Hair. In a way you could say that sister Ali Youngblood and Dawn Watley hold it down like a kind of less-icey Wendy and Lisa, and bassist Owen Holmes and drummer Kevin Snow can definitely be credited with adding a dancier feel to their patterns as evidenced by the head-banded girl feelin the bassshes shadowed beautifully by a girl moving in her own mellower style, as she quickly puts on a hat as the camera pans her way, tho not altogether avoiding the lens, seemingly shy, yet seeking attention -- it can be hard in the audience, just like onstage. Nice job by Black Kids who simply get the hell UP big-time for the entire 45-minute set.
