http://www.snakerivertreeservice.com - Tree Pruning - The best way to prune a heavier branch is to do it in 3 simple steps. The first step in tree pruning is to make a cut that protects the tree and bark from the inevitable break that may tear bark down the tree.

Do this by making a wedge shaped cut on the underside of the branch about 2 inches from the tree. The next step is to go our about 1-2 inches further than your wedge cut and begin to cut completely through the branch.

When the tree branch breaks any damage to the tree will be stopped by your wedge cut. Cut and remove branch. Your last step is to make one more complete cut through the branch as close to the tree as possible.

Make this cut just on the branch side of the stem collar reducing the branch and getting as close to the tree as possible.

Care should be taken to protect your tree. Proper care and maintenance of your trees will have them living healthy long lives and providing plenty of shade in the hot summer.
