Stop Strip Mining Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

At the mouth of the Bras d'Or Lakes in Cape Breton, under the pretext of "cleaning up" an old federal mine site, tourism, fishing, agriculture and our environment are being destroyed as the "cleanest, greenest" government approves strip mining high sulphur, high mercury coal on Boularderie Island and trucking it to NSPI's high polluting generating station at Lingan. 28.08.07

I would gladly freeze in the dark and go without ALL of the human made possessions that are so dear to people like most of you, consume don't think, if it meant that we could keep this planet habitable and unpoisoned. I and some others at least intend to make the ultimate change and live more like the monkeys that we are more like than you know.

Nice to see that people have forgotten at how quick some were to sell their land once they learned the company was willing and looking to buy. But to any one who is from the area that reads this, tell me, why did no one try and stop the local companies from doing the exact same thing (and left the land in a dismay and an eye sore). With this company it is well known for them to actually plant trees to replace the ones that were lost (not the first time they did strip mining here)

I was part of the "Save Boularderie Island " when the NSPC was putting a power generating plant. They didnt even know Boularderie was an Island. Good luck i recognise many folks here, you got a great bunch of dedicated people to help you. The big problem is...that the people who are forcing strip mining think they are communicating with people who have a grade primary education.

Stop Strip Mining and dont give up the good fight !!!

What a load of tripe!! Farmers talking about groundwater contaminanation, there's the pot calling the kettle black! Why do the CASM Morons say they can have mining OR tourism, mining OR farming? Have none of them looked at the great job that has been done on most of the rehabilitated sites? Other rehabilitated sites will improve as rehab takes hold but what is the real complaint here? That John Chisolm makes money? Or just someone other than them?If Capers aren't poor they don't deserve respect?

What more proof than these photos does the government need to see the destruction Pioneer Coal is causing? How much louder can the citizens scream "STOP STRIP MINING" before government will step in and put an end to this?
