You are clueless. Try traveling abroad without basic English skills and then tell me how useful Mandarin or Spanish are as a lingua franca. There is a reason why Americans can hop on a plane and land a great English teaching job in Asia, Latin America or Eastern Europe- because it is the language of commerce and global media... learn Mandarin or Spanish for their own sakes, but it would be foolish to think that either one will supersede English as the global language.
