When I hear The Riptides, I'm 16 again, back at Alex Heads for schoolies, riding in an open top VW beetle. Saw these guys a few times at QIT (now QUT). Awesome live. Mark Callaghan was also the lead singer of Ganggajang who had more commercial success. Oh ... those were the days.

I used to see these guys all the time around Sydney. Greatest band that never made it.
Shake it!!!

They wanted to sound like The Jam the day this jem-ette was recorded at QIT. I wanted them to sound like the toughest 60s skiffle band ever seen. The engineer pretty much wanted to go home. Considering the singer had only just recovered from a perforated lung and the studio was basically set up for strings and electronic classical the compromise worked out ok . . . Wish I'd got the chance to mix it, though . . .
