Ben Kompa, a Columbus, Ohio high school student was just 16 when he did his first run on an Ion PGM™ sequencer. A year later he and Dr. Julia Pinsonneault, a researcher from Ohio State University Medical Center, used the Ion PGM™ system to find a DNA variation in the estrogen receptor gene that appears to be associated with levels of RNA expression, a potential breakthrough.
