Call me a noob, but if I buy a game that says Mega Drive on it, will it work on the Genesis?

Oh how wonderful it was to game in the 90s. So many new and exciting styles of games to experience. A lot of today's games are just recycled and slapped with new names hence your Battlefield, Halo and CoD series.
p.s. Before you hate I do enjoy the games listed above, they just won't ever be nostalgic to me.
