PS20 solar power tower is a solar thermal energy plant in Sanlucar la Mayor near Seville, in Andalusia, Spain. It is the world's most powerful solar power tower. The 20 megawatt solar power tower produces electricity with large movable mirrors called heliostats.

@Devilzwishbone2009 you wanna live next to a coal fire or nuclear plant?
Also, this seems like a good report on the costs of one vs the other:

The future is now, and baby it looks bitchen. We've come along way, now if the F****ING oil companies would just get out of the way.

Devilzwishbone, this is an emerging technology and once it becomes more mainstream we will see animals grazing under solar reflectors and solarPV arrays just like we see them grazing around wind turbines i.e the land use could be minimal.
Also, if I was to but a pint of milk for my kids I would rather the cows were grazing under solar arrays than by a nuclear power plant! The legacy for future generations of a solar plant compared with that from a nuclear plant needs no further discussion.

People are moving away from Nuclear. If scientist and government funded renewable energy technology so that its alot more advanced these solar plants would generate alot more. Within 5 years we can change Earth around and have fully free renewable energy plants, oil could be eliminated and so forth...
I recommend you watch Jacque Fresco videos or the Venus Project.

The plumes you are seeing are not birds. The light beam is so intense that it lights up dust and water vapor in the air.

20MW of electricity for such a very large amount of space isnt very productive, :( sorry not worth it when other renewable energy sources such as nuclear power plants produce as much as 1280MW and are 1/4 the size of the seville solar tower

Maybee some birds are burning when passing in the "hot field"!

when this person zooms in you see little puffs of smoke in the beam, I'm assuming they're insects getting fried.
