This animated video is part of the "Eat the View" campaign to turn part of the White House's 18 acre lawn back into an edible landscape. The video tells the story of the "America's Garden" from 1800 when President John Adams planted the first "first vegetables" to feed his own family to the present day.

It ends by peeking optimistically into the future when the next President, seeing how our world is changing, announces plans to replant America's garden, inspiring countless citizens to grow some of their own delicious, healthy, and environmentally responsible food.

The "Eat the View" campaign is powered by real people like you. If you haven't yet signed our petition, please do so here:

The video was produced by the nonprofit group Kitchen Gardeners International (http://www.KitchenGardeners.org) which is leading the "Eat the View" campaign. The animation is the creative genius of Eliot Morrison of http://www.yiggs.com.

  • I don't get it....

  • If they would push this and permaculture like they are pushing H1N1 we would have alot more healthy eating and a cleaner environment....

  • I hope the new president encourages everyone to plant their own garden to live a healthy life!!

  • This was so fun to watch! I hope the new administration will plant it's own victory garden. I had a small garden last summer and it was great to have such fresh food.

  • it would be good to see, i don't have a garden but my small windowledge grows mixed salad, coriander, mint, cress, basil and thyme, which is all i can mangage with circumstances, but at least i know it's fresh and healthy

  • I do think more people are growing a backyard vegetable gardening. The more gardening classes I give here at my farm, the more people come! It's fabulous! I love seeing people ripping out their water-guzzling lawns and planting their own edible landscapes.

  • Awesome and inspiring.

  • "The British: A Minor Setback" HAHAHAHALOL!!L!O!L!

  • Awesome! Shared!

  • I am enjoying the fruits of my labor now that my first garden is ready to be harvested! It is really awesome. Gardening is cool!
