  • There was supposed to be a sequel to this in 1936 called "Snowbabies", but the idea was shelved until Disney revived it in 1938 and fixed it up and called the sequel Merbabies

  • He made a mistake. He said "1938" but "Water Babies" was made in 1935.

  • such a wonderful man,,,,,a genious

  • Yep, that looks like the opening of Merbabies. I wonder why they used waterbabies? I read the Waterbabies when I was little & it's not like this . I know it's just based on it though with a disney touch.

  • Walt Disney rooted

out 'communists' but he did make good films

  • Are you SURE this is 1955? His saying "twenty years ago" certainly suggests it, but the animation of Kingsley and his son looks like something they would have done in the early '60s, going by those designs.

  • That was all Disney's doing. Ten years earlier, they'd looked very primitive. Disney wanted to elevate the medium, and because of the environment he created, enormous strides were made in just a few short years. There's nothing unusual about the animation in that short---that was typical of what they'd achieved by then.

It's just that most television animation made now is so minimal compared to this decades-old stuff, that when people today see the old stuff, it's a bit of a surprise.

  • Actually, they worked on it SIX years and it was released in 1959.
