Does the wire pierce easily into the sternum? Or did you bore small holes in them prior to closing?

The steel wires are knotted and their tips are turned down, so that they would not hurt any soft tissue above them. But, despite this, rarely, some patients may have such complaints. Then we may remove the wire with a little operation using local anesthesia. The sternal bone heals in approximately two months' time. After that, there is no need for the sternal wires actually...

I close the sternum in a way, which can be called a modified Robiscek technique. All wires are No.6 Stainless Steel sutures.
