  • Durham College in Ontario Canada uses similar VAWT Turbines youtube.com/watch?v=BGfZ9ETsHSA

  • I'm pretty much sold on the vertical turbines and am going to put one together.

Has anyone figured whether it is it best to go with gears or belt-pully system?

  • I geared my vertical turbine 20 to 1 works great

  • u really can see that clear, he probably has a gearbox in there somewhere. not sure, im thinking the same thing. although they do have high torque alternators they dont work quite this slow i didnt think....

  • I like the fact that it is bulky and heavy enough to create decent torque in a low wind but what kind of RPM can you create on the generator/motor? It seems to me that we need significant RPM to make electricity.
