  • that works great for punches and all, but what happens when he gets shin kicked in the head?

  • The principle applies to every strike that comes in. this is just a demo of hand work. please listen again and think how it may be applied to kicking. as long as you touch a strike coming in it is a stick. the question is, how can you use the touch or stick to your advantage. the main message is be sensitive to a stike and use the touch to feel the energy, power, strength, timing, speed ect of the incoming force.

  • Very Nice,

It's good to hear people who have a true understanding of the principle behind sticking hands

  • @willkwikbubba if you hate Aikido demos you probably misunderstand what's happening in them. An uke who does not know how to fall out of an elbow push type throw (for example) will quickly end up long-term injured. The object of training is not to massacre your training partners so they are taught to somersault out from throws that use the twisting of uke's arm from a wrist-lock. In real life, uke would aim his somersault so as to take tori's head off as his leg comes over. :-)

  • Excellent Demo! This is well explained and really clear. Some of the BEST sticking hands i have seen. Thanks!

  • great vid, thank you. i get a sense you could do this blindfolded

  • I love how quick and perfect he's applying this technique while he's explaining it at the same time. Never running out of breath, and never missing and very confident. I'd like to see more resistance from the partner. I hate demo partners because they always fly around like a rag doll when they've only been pushed a little. Specifically I HATE Akido demo's.....NE-ways...good stuff man!

  • It's called "trapping hands" in Wing Chun systems.

  • Nice vid.

  • Very clear demonstration, well explained.

  • you would have to be extremely flexible and quick to get in a shin kick at that range and if you transfered your weight on to one leg to acheive this you would simply be pushed off balance because of the magnitude of the movement itself . remember it is all about touch and sensitivity . i agree that a shin to the head is not a lot of fun though!

  • This is one of the best explanations of sticky hands I've seen. Thanks.
