@gingerlykimberly - If you have 10 dolphins and 10 years later you've got 5, you don't have enough information to calculate average life span - not until ALL of them are dead. All you can calculate is that the average life span is greater than 10 years. The parks were not very good at keeping animals healthy 30 years ago, but these days they are. They needed those earlier animals in order to learn about them, and learn how to keep them healthy and happy, which they are now.
