I know everybody talks about this song musically being a low point in his career. But i have to admit, it's actually not that bad. It's certainly not as bad as people make it out to be. It would probably be more exceptable as an early Bowie song if it didn't have that annoying Alvin & the Chipmunks effect on the record, but i digress, it's still not actually that bad a song. Bowie can do no wrong.

i love it keep it going this song means so much to me it was release the the year that my mother died so it has a great meaning to me i was only 10 and a half a year olds and the laughing gnome means to me so much cause it brought me tthrough the the toughest time in my life .

@Poopingbotham Well i disagree. If you ask someone to name as many Bowie songs as possible, this song will be near the bottom, if it is even mentioned at all. I am not didputing that during the 70s, and for the people who lived through them at that time, the song is well known to them, but as for today not many people know it.

As a comedy song it is still good fun. I remember it well as I am 52 now. Mind you, I think David Bowie world rather forget it as it doesn't go with his cool image these days.

A program is another way of spelling programme - presumably you understand?
