From a production point of view, Garageband is not even barely passable. With a massive lack of instruments and effects and very poor loops, its main aim - to provide very easy access to music production without needing any external software or audio - is very poorly achieved. It is a gimmick, nothing more.

or you could just learn it yourself for free;S or even better and make your own songs up

There are a lot of better quality lessons, like justingutiar here on youtube, for free.
Compare internet prices to internet prices, not to real life stuff...
