"Bro... that snare drum track we recorded last night sounds weak.. I wish we could replace it with this fat snare sample"...
In this weeks episode I show how to achieve drum replacement using the cv out of audio drum tracks to trigger sampled drum parts.

  • i didn't even know you could do this in Record! Thanks, James! :)

  • I tried this technique recording an audio track tapping on the table or snapping my fingers and then trying to trigger Redrum or Kong using the Gain Reduction CV out to the CV in on the Redrum or Kong. It didn't work. Then I added an M Class Compressor to the audio and used its Gain Reduction CV out instead. That worked after experimenting with Input Gain, Threshold, Attack, and Release. What do you think is the difference?

  • i hope Kong have CV inside i can trig the sound ans sensitivity with real audio stuff !!! with this the "FLA" stuff work fine also with clap sound

  • thx i have try with my snare and bass drum and the sensitivity is very good with dynamic microphone. not easy on cymbal

  • cool if only i can trigg my own voice or guitar for controling midi in a future version of record it could be awesome, i must try this cv control with my snare and kick ^^ it's very usefull for double stuff or just have fun for trigger the redrum ^^

  • Well James i hope all the nagging doesn't stop the tutorials. I find them extremely helpful. do you ever see a possibility for a drum replacer template effect you know...to dial up just like you would the Matrix or the RV7000

  • @treblemc No harm done. Being an audio engineer myself I would have made sure it was right from the beginning (using all the methods you mention.. which are time-tested fixes).. but this is for those who do not have that option.. which is a lot of people these days.. believe me. And the whole point of these vids is tips and tricks on using our software... so the type of tips you talk about would be more general audio recording stuff.... which is something else entirely.

  • from reading these comments you can tell ive been trained by an extremely fussy old man hahaha if my teacher caught me using software to fix a snare drum he would beat me down. i feel bad now because it kinda looks like u thought i was trying to say this tutorial was wrong, its not that. i was just giving some tips for those old skoolers out there who use hardware and dont know how to switch a mobile phone on :)
