@sailawaysteve08 The piano is a dynamic instrument. If protected from extremes, this dynamic quality will not result in a deterioration. Plastic is not a dynamic material. The extent to which plastic or similar materials are used in a piano is the extent to which that piano loses its dynamic quality. This is not a worthwhile sacrifice.

@1001dlee The Roland V-Piano Grand is one hell of an impressive instrument. From a distance, it is difficult to distinguish from a conventional acoustic grand.
During the unveiling celebration of the Roland V-Piano grand, Roland hid the fact that the piano on stage prior to the unveiling was a digital. Everyone in the audience was blown away when they revealed it was a digital.

I would have said Broadwood defined what the piano is today. Steinway is the pinnacle of piano quality today.

@miykeey Kawai builds pianos of excellent quality and superb tonal character given their price range. To say that they're "better than Steinway" though.. that seems a bit like an overstatement. Steinway is responsible for defining what the piano is today, and it is the standard by which all other pianos are compared - this includes the Kawai.
I don't think I've ever seen a Kawai on a concert stage. Have you? It's always a Steinway. Not that Kawai is bad.. just not the pinnacle.

This video shows exactly why no digital piano, no matter how sophisticated it is, can *ever* match up to a grand piano.

Kawai builds extrem good pianos. even my piano tuner is always impressed by the sound of my Kawai.

In fifty years, what is going to last longer: wood or plastic? It's that simple. I've seen and worked on these pianos and over time they dry out.

I am the 3rd owner of a GM10 Kawai. It is a wonderful instrument.

Naaah ... they're good, but not THAT good.
Kawai grand pianos are wonderful instruments! The action feels so great to play and the tone is supurb! They were excellent in the 70's and now they are better! The Millenium 3 action is a fantastic innovation. I now prefer Kawai to Steinway. Big time!
