4 Duetti, BWV 802-805. Composed by J.S. Bach (1685-1750).
Christophe Rousset, harpsichord (harpsichord- Henri Hamsch, Paris 1751).
~Duetto I in e-minor, BWV 802
~Duetto II in F-Major, BWV 803
"Bach published the third part of his Clavier-Übung in 1739. It is primarily organ music, its best-known item being the 'St Anne' Prelude and Fugue, which frames a series of chorale preludes.[...]Some of the chorales are set for manuals only, so could well have been intended for playing at home, as may the group of four Duetti. Scholars have argued over whether they have any hidden meaning: it is possible that they represnt the four gospels, the four elements or prayerful dialogues between the Christian and his God. But the fact that what they symbolise is so open to dispute suggests that it is enough to consider them as skilful and delightful demonstrations of two-part counterpoint."
~Clifford Bartlett, 1992.
Nice, masculine interpretation. Listen to Scott Ross, he plays it even better!
