what is a reset and why do they do it?

@drsusredfish in 2D fighting games, a reset is when you INTENTIONALLY stop comboing the opponent in order to force a "decision" by them; if they guess wrong, you start a new combo... which would reset the damage scaling and permit you to do even more damage. In a game like Marvel, it is joked that there are no "dropped combos"; everything is a reset.

In a 3D fighting game, people don't reset as the benefits are not worth it. He dropped the combo, and the commentators called it a reset as a joke
