disco came this decade (2000s) but maybe it is starting to die out again. I just dont hear a lot of great new stuff compared to 2004-2007. Disco = daft punk, hot chip, mylo, junior boys and lots of the indie/electro you hear. if you didnt go out dancing you missed it.

I don't think that's accurate at all. Disco definitely had major black and gay players. But to say that if it was any two things, it is those? It was far too broad to confine to "black" or "white" or "gay" or "straight". I think we agree that gays and blacks had huge roles in disco, but so did heteros and whites and awkward pants and drugs.

Disco issss back , its a perfect time for this movie to come out on criterion. Cities are full of disco mixes and disco nights now. All these hip young 20 somethings are into it.

he is right, Disco is too great to be gone forever, tomorrow i'll go to the disco (and yes, here we still call them disco) to dance 70's 80's and 90's dance music.

Gee, I never picked up on that. Of course I'm a preppy white guy, so I was probably too busy enjoying a film about My People in a disco.
Say...isn't white a color?

Despite the title, it's not really a movie about disco. It's about the social scene of preppy WASPs who happened to be in that environment at that time and place, as are Whit Stillman's other films. Sometimes directors choose to tell a story about what they know. Go sue someone if you're that mad about it.

Yeah, Kate is beautiful. Who would have thought that she would make 3 action films a few years after this film.
