Despite the title, it's not really a movie about disco. It's about the social scene of preppy WASPs who happened to be in that environment at that time and place, as are Whit Stillman's other films. Sometimes directors choose to tell a story about what they know. Go sue someone if you're that mad about it.

I don't think that's accurate at all. Disco definitely had major black and gay players. But to say that if it was any two things, it is those? It was far too broad to confine to "black" or "white" or "gay" or "straight". I think we agree that gays and blacks had huge roles in disco, but so did heteros and whites and awkward pants and drugs.

Came New Wave,Electro,Freestyle,Frankie &the Warehouse,Juan,Derrick&Kevin & Techno...Hip Hop was there as part of it since 1975 and look what happened, then on and on and on,.it never went away but the Andy Williams, Rod Stewards and branch of then 80 year old artists from the 30's 40's started to put Disco records out that watered it down which costed it's namesake downfall."Like making love with one stoke" as George Clinton said....Give us a beat and a good groove and we'll dance the night away

@Francesko263 disco has been dead for a long time. Discos definition is what it was back in the 70s and early 80s. Today we have raves, not discos. Disco is dead...

Well, disco today is completely different from late 70s disco. 70s disco was danced by yuppies, leftist, glam, celebrities and middle-class people (like the characters in this movie, btw) while today disco is for the masses. In the 70s disco was trendy and it was a way to get freedom and it a way to get out of social rules. It was a music revolution in a certain way. Today disco is for masses. Kids and teens go to disco to dance. But there's nothing revolutionary or snobbish anymore.
