HAIL ROME!!! The Best Empire the world has ever seen and the longest lasting. The idea that the Roman Empire ended in 476 AD is total bullshit, the Eastern Empire lived on till 1453.

@1993heavenshallburn I doubt that it's 70%, but in general, more complicated or scientific words were derived from Latin and Greek by monks who didn't have a suitable English word whereas simpler more common words (and, water, earth) were probably derived from local languages such as Anglo-Saxon.

@jmitterii2 The word for pumpkin and the word for squash or large melon are synonymous in Greek. The pumpkin Apollodorus would have referred to wouldn't be the pumpkin we know today, but a different kind of melon that they'd still call a "pumpkin".

That's funny about the historian saying go an make your Pumpkin domes. Pumpkins were cultivated in the Americas, not yet introduced to Europe, Asia, or Africa. Sometimes, I think these historians make stuff up. Which is terrible. Fake history stinks, I like it factual.
