So graceful and effortless are here steps no doubt the tradition of dancing has been passed on meticulously generation after generation from natya gurus. Kalashetra attitude is imbibed in every steps she danced and refined passed on so elegantly from her predecessors Dhananjayan Narendra Kumar Anusha nareendra Kumar.....R.Poornema has extraordinarily taken the trend in every one of her movements. At times I felt seeing Dhananjayan performing on the stage as Poornema stupendous.....
Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam
There are several original Bharatanatyam styles that are over 150 years old:
• Melattur
• Pandanallur
• Vazhuvoor (or Vizhuvur)
• Thanjavoor (or Tanjore)
• Mysore
• Kanchipooram
The distinctive characteristics of the Melattur style of Bharatanatyam are:
• natural (spontaneous) and highly expressive abhinaya
• largest amplitude of movements, which requires a higher degree of flexibility
• emphasis on sringara bhakti
• emphasis on crisp adavus, accuracy of jathis/ gathis,
• fluid variations of patterned korvais
• dramatic elements (characterisation)
• original methods of application of principles of "loka dharmi" and "natya dharmi"
