Here is video of First Lady Michelle Obama in an interview from Mexico City, where she declared it to be safe to travel to Mexico. She said she would encourage Americans to come to Mexico. This despite the fact that 23,000 people have been killed in drug violence in Mexico in the last three years.

This is my first time in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta. I am already in love with Mexico and the amazing people that I have met! I live at Oasis Hostel and I feel really safe staying there. Media forget to show the real side of Mexico. They forget about the amazing food, the nice people, the culture and the nature. Before people make up their mind about what they think about a country they have to stop listening to media.

I live in Puerto Vallarta. The tourist areas are safe. About 50,000 US citizens come to Mexico EVERY DAY. If they were getting killed or in danger, you'd hear about it. Sure there is violence between the government and drug traffickers, far away from tourist areas. It's a bad time to be a narco, but tourism is fine.
