This video pays tribute to the surviving 99 (86) Medal of Honor recipients.

It need be noted that on October 6, 2010, the first living recipient since the Vietnam war was honored at the White House. SSG Salvatore Giunta, who is assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, for service in Afghanistan. To learn more, please check the links here or do a simple search on his name.

This video was created October 21, 2008. At that time there were 99 living recipients of the MoH. As of January 1, 2010, there were 91 living Medal of Honor recipients. Annotations added as applicable.

NOTE: Annotations will be added for those deceased since the creation of this video.

The earliest living survivor is from WWII. All MoH recipients from campaigns after Vietnam, to date, were awarded posthumously.

It matters not what your political views are when it comes to the valor that these courageous persons so earned and deserve. With this in mind, no politically pointed viewpoints, nor hate-monger formed comments will be permitted; and will be promptly removed.

Music is by Hans Zimmer
1 - Theme from Pearl Harbor
2 - Leave No Man Behind

I come from a long line of proud Americans who have served our country since before the Revolutionary War. I pray I do them honor also in this humble presentation.

I was, in part, inspired to make this video presentation having seen a tribute to Ed Freeman, MoH Recipient, who died recently; and also, having heard that Robert Nett died October 19.

The original audio was disabled due to copyright issues. The new song, authorized by You Tube, is Mystic Angel by Mike Rowland.

  • Absolutely no disrespect here, but Lance P. Sijan and James B. Stockdale are missing here. Also, Roy P. Benavidez from who the famous call sign Tango Mike Mike was attributed to.

  • I am especially familiar with Sijan ... and yes, there are many that are seemingly missing; however, if your read the title and description, along with noting the date the video was made -- it is for those that are (were) living as of the date of publication. The video is updated as applicable and started out with 99 living recipients sadly to 91 at this time.

  • You have a twisted skewed view of what the men in this video represent. I hope you never have to see war ... I hope none of us would ever have to taste those bitters in our lives ... that we could all live in peace, but the reality is far from the hopeful. These good men, and those posthumously awarded, were willing to lay down their lives for others ... this is the measure of love in it's fullest. It is not a testament to war, but to love.

  • Neither do/would they support your ignorance, but they would lay down their lives for others. You continue to miss the point and argue for the sake of arguing and I will no longer approve any further of your comments disrespectful of these great men. Peace ... it's what all of us want. Take your anger out on the politicians who work from their own agendas of power, greed, and control ... and take a good look at your own country instead of casting stones at mine. Siochain!

  • awesome and very touching tribute to these very brave and valiant warriors. i hope we will always love and respect all veterans, especially the ones who did not make it home.

  • Medal of Honor recipient Gary George Wetzel (Vietnam) was kind enough to give me a signed copy of his MOH citation. I'm glad our country has people like the recipients of the MOH to protect our freedom. God bless them all.

  • @ggorans Captain Lance P. Sijan was KIA in Vietnam from malnutrition and from his injuries that occured when his F-4 was shot down.

  • What about Dan Daly and Smedley Butler? They received two medals of honor each.

  • @monsfone That's what I was thinking, he was awarded for actions on Guadancanal and later killed at Iwo Jima. I think he deserves to be mentioned too.
