How to Salvage a Laptop Harddrive - When a laptop gets to the point of the end of it's usefullness, just remove the hard drive and use the drive as a slave drive for any of your other machine, mac, pc, doesn't matter. Very simple and cost is anywhere from $9 to $30 for the enclosure. Operation should take no more than 5 minutes depending on laptop manufacturer.

  • when you say salvage it you mean get it back in working condition?

  • @ceci0729 When I say salvage...I mean removing it from the laptop and using it as an external drive...assuming that the laptop is dead or dying. This assumes that the drive is still functional and you want to save all the data that you had stored on it

  • This was a lot more simple than I thought it would be ^_^ The only problem I'm having is gaining ownership of my old files, but the internet has saved the day once again =P

  • @WhoNeedsQuality glad i could help

  • Hey, the reason my laptop isnt turning on due to my malfunction hard drive? Would I still be able to retrieve the files or are they lost forever?

  • @bathingape123456789 It is still possible to retrieve the data from the drive if you can get it spinning. Alot of times it does not spin up due to the recording head stuck to the disc and it cant break free. If you cant get the drive spinning, the only way to get the data off is to bring it to a company that will dissamble the drive and rebuild it, but this is very expensive.
