Was hoping to see some hand crafted work, the use of a machine makes this very ordinary,no variation other than the grain, hardly unique work.

Isn't there a way to not waste the sides? Cut them up before placing it in the turner and do something else that's smaller?

This is not craftsmanship, this is machines doing everything and the people pretty much just there. Craftmanship is turning a bowl by hand on a lathe one at a time taking your time to make that one of kind special bowl, plate, cup, mug, vase or other piece
