  • @lordtaw I think the process technology you're referring to is called "direct metal deposit", where a laser beam is used to apply energy together with delivery of powdered metal through several nozzles. The metal power fuses to the surface of the part building up the next layer of material.

  • This looks like Sciaky's direct manufacturing process. If you have heard of rapid prototyping machines otherwise known as 3D printers, this is based on those systems. Except it uses metal and is designed for producing complex shaped parts that require a bit of light machining instead of machining a billet from scratch.

This is not electron beam welding.

  • Yes this is non vacuum electron beam welding. Robots will not ever replace normal welders, because a human is the cheapest robot. In this case, titanium must be formed in a vacuum to be perfect. This has huge, huge applications for advanced parts.

  • is this non vacuum electron beam welding?

  • Sorry,i miss the point !

The video is about electron beam welding.

    Everyone is talking about robots.

    Begining vid,ok,robot welding a big ????

    then a form,then a turned reducer.

Sorry i miss the point,Iam a coded pipe welder for 22yrs,30yrs in the game.

I weld all metals,carbon-monel 400-titanium GTAW and have been coded in all, still am.

  • For production jobs, I agree. I think there will always be a need for the skill to do it by hand for repair jobs, where it would be cheaper and faster to do it by hand than to set up a machine.

  • They use robotic welders at Rolls Royce all the time! They can tbe that bad...

They have Electron Beam Welding aswell...

  • yeah i was just kidding robots are still way to un effective and costly. I've been a welder for 15 years and ppl said that shit wene i was just getting started and i've never seen a welder to be replaced by a robot.

  • this is my new account from SS454Toker.

yeah i'm scared as fuck. i have ADHD and if the only job i can get is working a desk ill go nuts.

so yeah, you would be to if the stuff youve been doing all you're life suddenly disappears with a couple of inventions/improvements on (robots, automated assembly etc.)

  • People said tractors would never replace the oxyen and plow. In ten years think of the exponential power and adapatibility of computers robots. Don't kid yourselves my fellow welders, it WILL happen. The only welders left will be at small repair shops who can't afford the equipment. If you are young enough, learn computers not welding.
