Caston & Majors - Caston & Majors Tamla Motown(1974)

This album was and still is a great album. Its a great gospel album, a little on the Broadway side but good music, good lyrics and phenominal singers. Child Of Love had that big band production and featured the late Syreeta on backing vocals. Motown just didnt know what to do with such a fantastic album. This album was way ahead of its time, in today's market I think it would have been a smash.

writer-producer Leonard Caston -best known for the songs he wrote and produced for Eddie Kendricks and the '70s Supremes- jumped at the opportunity of releasing on Motown this curious blend of gospel and soul, in which he performs all the songs with his wife Carolyn Majors, a singer with a strong voice who is at her best doing inspirational tunes as the vibrant opening number "Child of Love", than love songs like the strange "Say You Love Me True", a sort of Motown-meets-Burt Bacharach number. With lush arrangements by Jimmie Haskell and Jerry Long, and featuring special vocal performances by Syreeta and Essence of Capricorn, the album was more appreciated in the United Kingdom, where two singles were released. The best numbers are "Child of Love" (the first single), "Satisfied Mind (Sing)", "Let There Be Love", their second single "I'll Keep My Light In My Window" (Mighty Clouds of Joy made this also)(later produced by Caston on Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye) and the closing song, "Everything Is Alright Now", which should have been longer.
