  • hey johnjay, I've tried to make pine pitch using this method on an open fire and my pine sap always seems to catch fire and then gets really unmanageable when I try to use it. any suggestions?

  • mmm, maybe the flames were too high or the fire too hot ,maybe try cooking it over some smallish embers , i hope this helps

  • hehehe last time i make glue like that it get a wild big flame, good for me im already are bald, hope you like to show if its brittle or not,

    good video malc,, 5/5,

  • ha ha ha thanks fredde

  • Hi, i found a pinetree today with some almost white pitch, is it bether to use than more darkened pine pitch?

Is the blend about 50/50 or do you have less charcoal than pitch?

  • collect any of the pitch you can , maybe do it 40/60 with more pine sap

  • I was always told that it called for a bit of scat as well

  • @MTHKITEBOARDS Made well this can be really sticky. Much better then a glue stick. But more effort.

  • could you make it by placing the pine resin on the ash bed its self?

  • It's the weakest glue I have ever used, just wasted half my day collecting the stuff because some guy said it was as strong as epoxy. It is cool that this was one of the first glues used but I would rather read about it then ever try to use it again.

You can get a glue stick for a buck and it works 100 times better.

  • @mrouterrim no!

  • Looks like you're cooking up heroin.

  • @19countryboy71 did u ever get an answer. I would like to know about the ash

  • @Caveman0713 It's better to use coals or heat your pot indirectly (put a stone near or part way in the fire and put the pot on top of that.

  • does it have to be pine? i have a pine but i dont think it has much sap on it. but i have a plum (well i think its a plum, it makes a few small delicious plums, so i guess it is) tree that has alot more sap bubbles, can i use that?

  • i am going to ask a real silly question and how would you use that as glue, i take it you would have to heat it up again to use it? Also, if you had that stick with your glue on the end and you lit it, would that work as a type of candle? Sorry for the stupid questions, many thanks
